Missouri Department of Labor Gives Public the Opportunity to Comment on Rules for Occupational Titles
Jefferson City, MO – The Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations today announced it’s giving the public an opportunity to comment on rules promulgated for occupational titles of work descriptions under the Missouri Prevailing Wage Act.
“The department believes that recent developments in case law and state statutes, the general passage of time since the occupational titles and descriptions were reviewed and changes in business procedures necessitates an opportunity for the public to provide feedback for improvements to the rules,” said Rod Chapel, director of the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.
Missouri’s Prevailing Wage Act requires that prevailing wages be paid to workers on public works construction projects, such as bridges, roads, schools and government buildings. The Missouri Department of Labor enforces this Act and is required to ensure that workers on public works projects are paid at least the prevailing rate received by workers engaged in work of a similar character in a particular locality.
To assist in the task of ensuring workers receive similar wages for work, the Missouri Department of Labor promulgated 8 CSR 30-3.060, called “Occupational Titles of Work Description.” This regulation sets forth particular occupational titles and descriptions of the work performed by workers in each title. The regulation also provides methods whereby interested parties can submit wage information to be used in establishing the prevailing wage for each title and can submit suggestions for adding, deleting or modifying a title.
The Missouri Department of Labor will be accepting written comments from the public through October 5, 2007. Comments may be sent to prevailingwage@dolir.mo.gov. or 3315 West Truman Boulevard, P.O. Box 449, Jefferson City, MO 65102. In addition to written comments, public meetings may be scheduled at a later date to gather additional feedback. More information is available at www.dolir.mo.gov/ls.
