Deadline to File Disaster Unemployment Assistance in
Three Missouri Counties Nearing
JEFFERSON CITY, MO - Last month, Gov. Matt Blunt and the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations announced that Missourians living or working in three counties who are unemployed due to recent severe storms and flooding, may be eligible for disaster unemployment.
Missourians who file from the following counties have no later than June 27, 2008, to file a claim for Disaster Unemployment Assistance: Barry, Jasper and Newton counties.
Disaster Unemployment Assistance is intended for those who are not eligible for benefits under a state’s regular unemployment insurance program. Farmers, the self-employed and others who are denied regular unemployment insurance benefits may now be eligible for Disaster Unemployment Assistance.
Funds for this program are provided by the federal government and do not come from the state employer payroll taxes used to finance regular unemployment benefits.
Missourians who need information about how to file a claim should call (800) 788-4002. Additionally, Missourians impacted by the flood in all the declared counties can register for assistance by calling the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) at (800) 621-3362 (TTY 1-800-462-7585), or register with FEMA online at www.fema.gov.
