Disaster Unemployment Assistance Available in Nine Missouri Counties
Jefferson City – Department of Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao announced that federal assistance, including Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA), has been authorized for certain counties in Missouri. Individuals who reside or work in the following counties who are unemployed due to recent severe storms, tornadoes and flooding may be eligible for disaster unemployment benefits.
These counties are: Christian, Hickory, Johnson, Monroe, Perry, Pettis, Randolph, Ste. Genevieve and Saline Counties.
Disaster unemployment assistance is intended for individuals who are not eligible for benefits under a state’s regular unemployment insurance program. Farmers or other self-employed individuals and individuals who are denied regular unemployment insurance benefits may now be eligible for disaster unemployment assistance.
Funds for this program are provided by the federal government and do not come from the state employer payroll taxes used to finance regular unemployment insurance benefits.
Individuals who need information about how to file a claim should call (800) 788-4002. Claims should be filed as soon as possible, but not later than 04-18-06.
