Jefferson City, MO – The Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations today announced an amendment to the March 17, 2006 Presidential disaster declaration to include individuals living or working in Crawford County. Individuals working or living in Crawford county and the previous 27 additional counties plus those in the original nine counties, who are unemployed due to the recent severe spring storms and tornadoes may be eligible for disaster unemployment assistance.
The original 9 counties are: Christian, Hickory, Johnson, Monroe, Perry, Pettis, Randolph, Ste. Genevieve and Saline counties. Individuals who file from these counties have no later than April 18, 2006 to file an unemployment claim.
The 27 additional counties are: Bates, Benton, Boone, Carroll, Cass, Cedar, Cooper, Greene, Henry, Howard, Iron, Jefferson, Lawrence, Lincoln, Montgomery, Mississippi, Morgan, New Madrid, Newton, Phelps, Putnam, Scott, St. Clair, Taney, Vernon, Webster and Wright. On April 6, 2006, Pemiscot County was declared a disaster county. Individuals who file from this county have no later than May 9, 2006 to file for unemployment claims.
Disaster unemployment assistance is intended for individuals who are not eligible for benefits under a state’s regular unemployment insurance program. Farmers or other self-employed individuals and individuals who are denied regular unemployment insurance benefits may now be eligible for disaster unemployment assistance.
Funds for this program are provided by the federal government and do not come from the state employer payroll taxes used to finance regular unemployment insurance benefits.
Individuals who need information about how to file a claim should call (800) 788-4002. Claims for Crawford County should be filed as soon as possible, but not later than May 16, 2006.
