Missouri’s Unemployment Insurance Program Receives $50,000 Grant for Postal Improvements
Jefferson City, MO - The Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations’ Division of Employment Security received a $50,000 grant last month from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration (ETA) to replace and update mail equipment to improve efficiency and reduce costs related to unemployment insurance mailings.
“This grant will allow the Division to effectively operate the unemployment insurance mail functions, collect vital data from the digitized mail equipment mandated by the United States Postal Service and ensure better service to Missouri’s citizens through increased accountability of equipment and funds,” said Rod Chapel, director of the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.
The Division of Employment Security will use the grant to purchase a new mail accounting software and hardware that will interface with the digitized metering equipment acquired to meet the requirements of the United States Post Office. In contrast to the current mail system, the new Mail Management Accounting System will collect, monitor, track, manage and report unemployment insurance postage costs from various metering equipment into a centrally controlled environment to ensure accurate postage accounting and chargeback to specific customer accounts. This system will make it easier to manage unemployment insurance mailing and shipping operational costs with higher levels of productivity than currently exist. Under the current mail system, staff must manually extract, compile, and reconcile data for mail and postage costs.
The Mail Management Accounting System is expected to reduce the labor necessary to mail correspondence, lessen material costs and improve accounting time. For more information, please contact Tammy Cavender at (573) 751-7500.
