Missouri Workers' Safety Program

The Missouri Workers' Safety Program is responsible for the administration of Section 287.123 RSMo and 8 CSR 50 - 7. The law requires all insurance carriers writing workers' compensation insurance in Missouri to provide comprehensive safety engineering and management services to employers upon request and sets forth requirements for certification of safety consultants and engineers.

Program functions include certifying and maintaining a registry of safety consultants and engineers; certifying safety programs of self-insured employers, self-insured trusts, third party administrators and workers' compensation insurance carriers; investigating complaints of inadequate loss control services against insurance carriers; monitoring the impact of safety services being provided by insurance carriers; performing on-site safety audits and consultations; and conducting occupational safety education and training.

The program also:

  • Conducts on-site visits with employers to help identify workplace safety and health hazards
  • Assists employers in implementing a comprehensive safety and health program
  • Works with employers to ensure experience modification factors, classification codes and other aspects of workers' compensation insurance policies are appropriate
  • provides employers with a lending library of safety videos at no charge
  • provides training and advice on a variety of occupational safety issues

MWSP services are offered at no charge. We do not cite, fine or penalize employers in any way. The MWSP does not make referrals to OSHA.
