FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  August 17, 2007

Deadline to File Disaster Unemployment Assistance in Clinton County is August 25

Jefferson City, MO -  Last month Gov. Matt Blunt and the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations announced that Missourians living or working in Clinton County, who are unemployed due to recent severe storms and flooding from May 5 to May 18, 2007 may be eligible for disaster unemployment assistance.

Governor Blunt first announced the assistance for Missourians affected by the severe storms on July 26 after the President quickly responded to his request for additional resources to help these workers.

Disaster unemployment assistance is intended for individuals who are not eligible for benefits under a state’s regular unemployment insurance program.  Farmers or other self-employed individuals and individuals who are denied regular unemployment insurance benefits may now be eligible for disaster unemployment assistance.

Funds for this program are provided by the Federal government and do not come from the state employer payroll taxes used to finance regular unemployment insurance benefits.

Individuals who need information about how to file a claim should call (800) 788-4002.  Claims should be filed as soon as possible, but no later then August 25, 2007.
