The Department of Labor and Industrial Relations Provides Information about Safe and Healthy Workplaces during

Capital for a Day in Carthage

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – The Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DOLIR) wants to make more Missouri workplaces safer and healthier for employees. Doing so reduces workplace injuries, workers’ compensation premiums, time away from work, and lost productivity.

Today, DOLIR Director Todd Smith and members of his staff will be in Carthage, Mo., providing information about Missouri’s Safety and Health Consultation Program, and assisting Missourians with any labor and employment-related questions.

Director Smith and certified employer representatives are available from 1-3 p.m., at Windsor Quality Foods located at 5691/5695 S. Davinci Lane in Carthage. Smith and his staff will answer questions regarding the Safety Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP).

Also today, the public is invited to attend a government showcase of state agencies from 1-5 p.m. at the Jasper County Courthouse located at 302 S. Main Street in Carthage. Department representatives will be on-hand to answer questions and distribute literature highlighting the Department’s various programs and services. Both events were planned in honor of the governor’s designation of the city of Carthage as Capital for a Day.

“Capital for a Day makes state government more responsive and accessible to Missourians by bringing state government to their doors,” said Director Todd Smith. “We’re excited about showcasing the SHARP, which allows the Department to alert employers and employees about occupational hazards,” Smith added.

Gov. Blunt proclaimed Capital for a Day in 2007 as part of his ongoing efforts to make state government more responsive and accessible for the people of Missouri. Carthage is the governor’s fourth city to receive the prestigious title.
