Jefferson City, MO – Adolfo Castillo was selected as vice-chairman of the Missouri Commission on Human Rights this month. Castillo is the first Hispanic to hold this position.
Governor Matt Blunt appointed Castillo to the Missouri Commission on Human Rights in September 2005. He serves the 7th District, which includes Branson, Joplin and Springfield. His term expires April 1, 2009.
Castillo is a consultant in the Joplin area where he works with local politicians to promote Hispanic involvement in government issues and regularly gives speeches on how education, workforce, health and welfare affect the Hispanic community. Prior to his current occupation, Castillo was an Adjunct Instructor at Missouri Southern State College in Joplin, Missouri. Castillo also has experience as an office manager with the US Department of Commerce and as a recruiter with the Texas Employment Commission. Castillo spent 20 years and four months in the US Army where he planned, implemented and evaluated military operations. He retired from the US Army in 1992.
Castillo is one of the founders and president of the Tri-State Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in Joplin, co-founder and third vice-chairman of the Hispanic Republicans of Missouri and is the co-sponsor of the Human Rights Commission in Joplin.
“It is a pleasure and honor to serve as vice-chairman of the MO Commission on Human Rights,” said Adolfo Castillo. “I’ve been an active advocate for the Hispanic community for many years and will utilize my experience during my service at the Commission.”
Castillo earned a bachelor of science degree from the Wayland Baptist University in San Antonio, Texas.
