Six More Counties Eligible for Disaster Unemployment Assistance
Jefferson City, MO – The Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations today announced an amendment to the April 6, 2006 Presidential disaster declaration to include individuals living or working in six additional counties. Individuals living or working in these six counties and those living or working in the original county declared, who are unemployed due to the recent severe spring storms and tornadoes may be eligible for disaster unemployment assistance.
The six additional counties are: Andrew, Butler, Dunklin, Pettis, St. Francois, and Stoddard. Unemployment claims filed for these counties should be filed as soon as possible but no later than May 18, 2006.
The original county declared in this same disaster was Pemiscot County. Unemployment claims filed for this county should be filed no later than May 9, 2006.
The disaster declared March 17, 2006, added Crawford County on April 5, 2006. Unemployment claims filed for this county should be filed no later than May 16, 2006.
Disaster unemployment assistance is intended for individuals who are not eligible for benefits under a state’s regular unemployment insurance program. Farmers or other self-employed individuals and individuals who are denied regular unemployment insurance benefits may now be eligible for disaster unemployment assistance.
Funds for this program are provided by the Federal government and do not come from the state employer payroll taxes used to finance regular unemployment insurance benefits.
Individuals who need information about how to file a claim should call (800) 788-4002.
