JUNE 18 IS DEADLINE FOR FILING OF DISASTER UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS FOR 18 COUNTIES

Jefferson City, MO – The Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations announces today that the deadline for filing claims for disaster unemployment assistance as a result of severe storms on May 19 is no later than June 18, 2003.  Those 18 counties are:  Audrain, Boone, Callaway, Chariton, Clark, Cole, Howard, Knox, Lewis, Lincoln, Marion, Moniteau, Montgomery, Osage, Pike, Ralls, Randolph, and Shelby.

Disaster unemployment assistance is intended for individuals who are not eligible for benefits under a state’s regular unemployment insurance program.  Farmers or other self-employed individuals and individuals who are denied regular unemployment insurance benefits may now be eligible for disaster unemployment assistance. Individuals who need information about how to file a claim should call (800) 788-4002.   Claims should be filed as soon as possible, but no later than June 18, 2003.

Six additional counties were also declared major disaster areas.  Individuals who are living or working in these six counties who are unemployed due to the recent severe spring storms and tornadoes may be eligible for disaster unemployment assistance. Those six counties are:  Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Iron, Monroe and Phelps.

Claims for those six counties should be filed as soon as possible, but no later than July 7, 2003.
