FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 18, 2003
Jefferson City, MO -- The extended unemployment benefit program
known as Temporary Extended Unemployment Compensation (TEUC) is scheduled
to phase out in December. The TEUC programs for airline industry
employees (TEUC-A) also will phase out in December. TEUC and TEUC-A
are federally authorized programs. The ending dates are a part of
the legislation passed by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by the
President.
In order to be eligible to file a new TEUC/TEUC-A claim, an individual
will have to exhaust benefits on a regular Missouri benefit claim with
the claim week of 12-20-2003 or earlier.
Anyone who is currently receiving TEUC or TEUC-A benefits or has a remaining
balance on his/her claim after 12-27-03 will be allowed to continue to
claim benefits after the end of the year. However, the last week
to claim TEUC benefits is the week ending 04-03-2004. The last week
to claim TEUC-A claims is 01-01-2005.
