MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF LABOR CALLS ATTENTION TO CRIME VICTIMS’ RIGHTS
Jefferson City, MO – The Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial
Relations is among various federal, state and local entities raising awareness
and honoring victims of crimes during Crime Victims’ Week, April 19 – 23,
2004.
The Department, in conjunction with M.A.D.D., MO Coalition Against Domestic
Violence, Departments of Corrections, Public Safety, Health and Senior
Services and Social Services, MO State Highway Patrol and MO Victim Assistance
Network are standing together for victims’ rights. On April 22 at
noon, a commemorative ceremony will take place on the steps of the State
Capitol. Governor Bob Holden, Missouri crime victims, state officials
and state agency directors will give tribute to victims of crime.
The Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations is responsible
for the implementation of the Crime Victims’ Compensation Program.
This program provides assistance to persons who have been physically or
psychologically injured or killed in a violent crime. “Crime Victims’
Compensation is a vital program for Missourians who have been involved
in a violent crime. It provides assistance as a last resort,” said
Catherine B. Leapheart, director of the Missouri Department of Labor and
Industrial Relations.
