Disaster Unemployment Assistance Available in 27 Additional Missouri Counties
Jefferson City – The Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations today announced an amendment to the March 17, 2006 Presidential disaster declaration to include individuals living or working in 27 additional counties. Individuals living or working in these 27 counties and those living or working in the original nine counties declared in the previous declaration, who are unemployed due to the recent severe spring storms and tornadoes may be eligible for disaster unemployment assistance.
The 27 additional counties are: Bates, Benton, Boone, Carroll, Cass, Cedar, Cooper, Greene, Henry, Howard, Iron, Jefferson, Lawrence, Lincoln, Montgomery, Mississippi, Morgan, New Madrid, Newton, Phelps, Putnam, Scott, St. Clair, Taney, Vernon, Webster and Wright.
The original 9 counties are: Christian, Hickory, Johnson, Monroe, Perry, Pettis, Randolph, Ste. Genevieve and Saline counties.
Disaster unemployment assistance is intended for individuals who are not eligible for benefits under a state’s regular unemployment insurance program. Farmers or other self-employed individuals and individuals who are denied regular unemployment insurance benefits may now be eligible for disaster unemployment assistance.
Funds for this program are provided by the federal government and do not come from the state employer payroll taxes used to finance regular unemployment insurance benefits.
Individuals who need information about how to file a claim should call (800) 788-4002. Claims should be filed as soon as possible, but not later than April 18, 2006 for the original nine counties and not later than April 25, 2006 for the additional 27 counties.
