PATRICIA SECREST PRESENTED NATIONAL AWARD
Jefferson City, MO – Patricia “Pat” Secrest was named as the 2005 recipient of the National Grocers Association’s “Spirit of America Award.” The award was announced during the Missouri Grocers Association Annual Convention & Merchandising Show held in Osage Beach on August 13, 2005.
The Spirit of America Award, established in 1982, honors key industry and community figures that have provided leadership in the areas of community services and government relations on behalf of a free and independent food distribution system. Recipients of the award have included former Presidents Gerald Ford and George H.W. Bush; former Vice President Dan Quayle; former Speaker of the House Tom Foley; Clinton Administration Chief of Staff Leon Panetta; as well as other distinguished individuals serving the public interest. A statewide committee selected Secrest for this prestigious honor after reviewing several highly qualified candidates.
Secrest is the director of the Missouri Division of Workers’ Compensation and is responsible for managing 185 employees throughout the state. She is the first small business owner and non-attorney to serve as director for the Division of Workers’ Compensation.
The Missouri Grocers Association is a non-profit, state-wide organization representing approximately 1,500 retailers, wholesalers, brokers, distributors, vendors, suppliers and manufacturers in Missouri.
