Blunt Reappoints Ringer to Labor and Industrial Relations Commission
Jefferson City, MO – Governor Matt Blunt reappointed William (Bill) F. Ringer to serve another term as the chair of the Labor and Industrial Relations Commission. His new term runs through June 27, 2012.
”Bill Ringer has done a tremendous job as chair of the commission over the last year and a half,” Blunt said. “He has proven he can effectively balance the needs of both employers and employees, a skill necessary for this position.”
Ringer was originally appointed as chair of the Labor and Industrial Relations Commission by Governor Blunt in January 2005 and was later confirmed by the Missouri Senate. Prior to joining the commission, he was a member in the Kansas City office of Evans and Dixon, L.L.C., an insurance defense litigation firm, where he specialized in workers' compensation cases. Ringer received an A.B. in Economics from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1970 and earned a law degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1973.
Ringer’s reappointed is subject to Senate confirmation.
As chair of the Labor and Industrial Relations Commission, Ringer leads two other members in hearing appeals for final decision in workers’ compensation, unemployment compensation and victims’ of crime compensation cases. The commission also hears and decides prevailing wage cases. Since July 1, 2005, the commission is responsible for determining an appropriate bargaining unit of public employees.
The commission is the governing body of the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations and is made up of three seats-one commissioner, who must be a licensed attorney, who represents the public, another who represents employers and a third who represents employees. Ringer has previous experience serving as a member of the commission from 1982-1986.
