Annual Conference on Workers’ Compensation Issues in Missouri Set for June 12 & 13
Jefferson City, MO – The Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations’ Division of Workers’ Compensation will host its Twelfth Annual “Missouri Issues in Workers’ Compensation” conference on June 12 & 13 at Tan-Tar-A in Lake Ozark, Missouri.
The two-day conference examines current issues that affect employers, employees, insurers, medical providers and anyone who comes in contact with the Missouri workers’ compensation system.
Senator Michael Gibbons, President Pro Tem, Missouri Senate, will be the keynote speaker. A Republican from Kirkwood, Senator Gibbons represents the 15th Senatorial District. His legislative accomplishments include creating the Safe Places for Newborns Act that lets young, vulnerable parents leave their newborn at a hospital or with an emergency worker without facing prosecution. Senator Gibbons also reformed the property tax re-assessment process by outlawing drive-by inspections. In 2004, he created the Comprehensive Children's Mental Health System that keeps families together while providing children with much needed mental health services.
The Honorable Rod Jetton, Speaker of the Missouri House of Representatives, will be the luncheon speaker on June 13, 2006. Jetton was elected Speaker of the House of Representatives for the 93rd Session in January 2005. His legislative efforts have been focused on his continued commitment to quality education, fiscal responsibility, traditional family values, and protecting Missouri jobs. Over the course of his service in the House, one of Speaker Jetton’s major legislative priorities was enacting meaningful legal reform measures. Speaker Jetton presided over the house last year during the passage of significant tort and workers’ compensation reforms.
