MISSOURI STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES ARE INVITED TO TAKE PART IN YOUTH LEADERSHIP FORUM

Jefferson City, MO – The Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations’ Governor’s Council on Disability, in conjunction with Missouri Planning Council for Developmental Disabilities, today announces it will be hosting this year’s Missouri Youth Leadership Forum.  This four-day long camp is for Missouri students with disabilities and will be held July 25 through 28, 2004 on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus.

During the four-day camp, student delegates will learn more about leadership principles, disability experience and resource sharing, assistive technology, development and achievement of career goals and independent living and developing advocacy skills.  The camp is provided at no cost to the student delegates.

“We are excited to co-host this event,” said Robert Honan, executive director of the Governor’s Council on Disability.  “The Missouri Youth Leadership Forum provides an opportunity to acknowledge young people with disabilities for their leadership and academic success.”

The Governor’s Council on Disability is currently accepting applications for this event.  Applications can be obtained by contacting the Council at (800) 877-8249 or visiting the website at www.gcd.oa.mo.gov/.  The deadline to submit an application is April 2, 2004.
