Jefferson City, MO – The Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial
Relations’ Governor’s Council on Disability, in conjunction with Missouri
Planning Council for Developmental Disabilities, today announces it will
be hosting this year’s Missouri Youth Leadership Forum. This four-day
long camp is for Missouri students with disabilities and will be held July
25 through 28, 2004 on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus.
During the four-day camp, student delegates will learn more about leadership
principles, disability experience and resource sharing, assistive technology,
development and achievement of career goals and independent living and
developing advocacy skills. The camp is provided at no cost to the
student delegates.
“We are excited to co-host this event,” said Robert Honan, executive
director of the Governor’s Council on Disability. “The Missouri Youth
Leadership Forum provides an opportunity to acknowledge young people with
disabilities for their leadership and academic success.”
The Governor’s Council on Disability is currently accepting applications
for this event. Applications can be obtained by contacting the Council
at (800) 877-8249 or visiting the website at www.gcd.oa.mo.gov/.
The deadline to submit an application is April 2, 2004.
